My Nursing Essay:

While offering multiple job opportunities, high pay, and stability, the nursing profession also allows nurses to work closely with patients regarding their care, gives the daily opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, and permits participation in the medical field without proceeding all the way through medical school. There are job opportunities in various fields in hospitals, clinics, schools, nursing homes, and also employment opportunities for in-home health care. If a nurse supplements his/her education with graduate school, there are also jobs available in teaching, physician assistant programs, and nurse specialties. Not only does nursing provide a plethora of different job styles, but nursing has a great occupation outlook. There will always be people in need of care and doctors will always need assistants. The constant need for nurses provides this field with a very solid foundation for the future. Nursing provides a high base salary that increases with experience and with advanced education. The salary for an entry-level nurse is comparable with the salaries of some fields with higher education and this can be very appealing. Many potential employers also offer sign-on bonuses as well. Education requires a high school diploma and an associate degree along with completion of a nursing program for Registered Nurse status. Although a two-year degree is required to enter the nursing domain, one may go as far as desired in education. Various degrees are offered at the graduate and doctorate levels. The work schedule of a nurse can also be very flexible. Some jobs are only days or nights; some are a mixture of both, and some nurses work as needed in various areas. Home healthcare provides a perfect opportunity for one to make his/her own schedule. In addition to great pay and variety, many jobs in the nursing field offer great benefits such as health and dental insurance, paid time off, 401K, and tuition reimbursement. I am very excited about a career in nursing. I plan on graduating from Santa Fe College with my associate degree in nursing before I take my boards to become licensed. I aspire to attend the University of Central Florida’s combined Bachelor of Science in nursing/Master of Science in nursing program. I am undecided at this time on whether I will specialize my Masters degree in midwifery or another area. Upon completion of that program I would like to continue with my studies until I have a Doctorate of Nursing degree. Eventually I want to teach nursing classes at the junior college or university level. I would like to have the opportunity to work in various areas for experience, to assist with medicine studies, and to gain as much knowledge as I can in this ever-changing field. By the time I am teaching I would like to have had experiences and possess expertise that will help my students tremendously. I think this will be a great career for people who want a family like I do because the work schedule allows such flexibility and some coursework can be done online. I look forward to a career that helps me as much as I help my patients.
